The flowrate of stripping steam is defined by the desired specification of the final product, normally are conducted adjustments to ensure the specification of the hydrotreated stream with minimum consumption of stripping steam. Despite this, there is some references in the literature which stabilises the value of 3 to 5 pounds of stripping steam per barrel of bottoms liquid. It's important to quote that the thermal charge of the steam supplied to the stripping column is negligible and the main effect of the stripping steam is to reduce the partial pressure of the hydrocarbon leading to the vaporization of the lighter fractions which drag contaminants like H2S and NH3.
