Gazprom Neft begins pre-commissioning works at complex gas treatment plant in Badra
Pre-commissioning works for a complex gas treatment plant (CGTP) have now commenced at the Badra oilfield, Iraq, operator of which is Gazprom Neft. The facility, with a production capacity of 1.6 billion cubic meters, is designed for the compression, treatment and dehydration of associated petroleum gas (APG). Once all gas infrastructure has been commissioned utilisation of APG at the Badra field is expected to reach 99 percent.
Output from the CGTP — dry marketable gas — will be delivered by pipeline to the Az-Zubaidiyah power plant, 100 kilometres from Baghdad, which will make possible a significant increase in electricity production in Iraq and play a major role in ensuring stable and secure electricity supply to several of the country’s provinces. In addition to which, dry marketable gas from the Badra field will be used to fuel the plant’s own 123.5MW gas turbine power plant (GTPP), meeting all production infrastructure energy needs. The city of Badra, surrounding neighbourhoods, and the Gazprom Neft Badra residential complex will also be connected to the field’s power grid.
Sergei Karavaev, Executive Director, Gazprom Neft Badra, commented: “Our gas programme is being implemented in full compliance with our contractual obligations. As part of the project we have begun construction of LPG storage facilities, infrastructure for its transportation in tankers, and other process facilities. Field development is ongoing, with all work on schedule.”
