Bilfinger awarded Natgasoline methanol plant contract

Bilfinger has won an order worth more than €100 million in connection with construction of the Natgasoline methanol plant in the city of Beaumont in southeastern Texas. The customer is Orascom Engineering & Construction USA – a subsidiary of Orascom Construction Limited, listed in the stock exchange of Dubai – who is the EPC contractor for turnkey construction of the plant. With an annual production capacity of 1.75 million tons, the plant will be the largest in the US market and will help cover a significant portion of the country’s methanol needs. Production is expected to start in the second half of 2017.

“Bilfinger has gained an excellent reputation in US industry with the quality and reliability of its engineering and services. This also applies to complex assembly projects. The major order gives us an important boost in a challenging competitive environment”, says Tom Blades, CEO at Bilfinger SE.

Services provided by Bilfinger comprise complete mechanical assembly, including piping construction, steel construction as well as insulation, painting, scaffolding, corrosion protection, fire protection and turnover of complete mechanical systems. Nearly 1,900 tons of steel will be processed and over 65,000 meters of piping laid, requiring more than 34,000 welding seams. Total manpower at the project will peak at approximately 700, including 70 specialist welders, to complete the work by the end of April 2017.
