Sakai refinery welcomes students from UAEs for refinery observation tour

The Sakai refinery of TonenGeneral Sekiyu K.K. welcomed 13 students and instructors from United Arab Emirates University and the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi for a refinery observation tour on July 22.

This activity was implemented as part of a research program in Japan run by INPEX Corporation for students of United Arab Emirates University and the Petroleum Institute.

All of the students who participated in the tour were women. In line with efforts of the United Arab Emirates and Japan to promote exchanges through the Friendship Committee for Women Career Development (FCW)*, the Sakai refinery tour and accompanying explanations were implemented primarily by the refinery’s female engineers.

The tour included an ascent of around 50 meters in the elevator of the refinery’s fluid catalytic cracking unit, giving participants a panoramic view of the refinery. The tour was also a good opportunity for communication between students with strong potential for careers in the petroleum sector and female engineers currently working in Japan’s petroleum industry.
