UOP technology and equipment to support Mistral Midstream’s natural gas production
UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, announced today that Mistral Midstream, Inc., has selected Honeywell’s UOP Russell modular equipment to recover valuable natural gas liquids (NGLs) from natural gas produced in southern Saskatchewan, Canada.
The UOP Russell modular cryogenic equipment will process 60 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas and is expected to be in production in late 2014 at Mistral’s site. UOP’s modular design and construction approach allows equipment to enter service up to six months faster than alternative approaches while ensuring superior quality control. The Mistral application is the first for UOP Russell equipment in the northern Bakken basin.
“This project with Mistral showcases UOP’s ability to work in the northern Bakken basin, especially as shale gas, remote gas and distributed gas play a more vital role in the global energy economy,” said Rebecca Liebert, UOP’s senior vice president and general manager for Gas Processing and Hydrogen. “UOP Russell modular equipment reduces field construction time and lowers capital and operating costs for customers such as Mistral, and allows our customers to achieve aggressive schedules to first gas, which can generate significant incremental value for gas producers and processors.”
Mistral is a privately-held company that builds, owns and operates energy infrastructure, such as processing plants, pipelines, terminals and storage facilities that support both the natural gas and the natural gas liquids industries.
Because it employs modular design and construction, UOP Russell can easily ship equipment to remote locations where gas is often discovered. Modules fit together quickly and efficiently, significantly reducing construction time and expense. This design allows gas customers to more quickly begin processing gas and earning revenue. The modular approach also allows for greater ease of operations for the customer due to the use of common parts that simplify maintenance and training.
UOP Russell equipment is one of the key technologies offered by UOP’s Gas Processing and Hydrogen business to treat and process natural gas, as well as to purify the hydrogen used in refineries. UOP’s gas technologies extract water, mercury, sulfur, carbon dioxide and other contaminants from raw natural gas and recover valuable NGLs such as ethane, propane and butane. The business has supplied technology to more than 3,600 individual process units for gas processing in a broad range of applications through the world.
In addition to UOP Russell equipment, UOP develops and manufactures UOP Separex™ membrane, UOP Amine Guard™ FS and SeparALL solvent systems for acid gas removal, and SeparSIV™ MOLSIV™ adsorbent-based systems for water and mercury removal. UOP also has marketing alliances with Twister B.V. and Ortloff Engineers, Ltd. for natural gas separation technology to recover NGLs, and with Black & Veatch to build small-scale liquid natural gas (LNG) plants.
