Chevron names Bechtel safety contractor of the year for Wheatstone project
Bechtel has been named the 2012 Safety Contractor of the Year by Chevron Corporation’s Project Resources Company. Bechtel was recognized for best-in-class safety performance on the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project, a two-train liquefied natural gas and domestic gas plant in Western Australia. Bechtel is delivering design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the project’s downstream scope for Chevron.
“Bechtel, along with its subcontractors, has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to safety and has shown exemplary leadership on the project,” said David Kempkes, Chevron’s Wheatstone downstream project manager. “Their safety performance in 2012 was exceptional, reaching 1.5 million safe work hours without a lost-workday incident.”
“We have worked with Chevron to develop and implement a first-class safety culture program on the project that fuses our companies’ extensive experience and best practices,” said Jim Henschel, Bechtel’s Wheatstone senior project manager. “The results are a testament to everyone who works on the project and their commitment to the safe delivery of a world-class facility.”
The Safety Contractor of the Year is the highest award given by the Project Resources Company to recognize exemplary safety performance of one of its contractors. The recognition is given by the company’s leadership team for best safety performance as measured against industry standards.
