Galkynysh gas field processing facility inaugurated
Petrofac’s largest EPC project to date, the US$3.4billion Galkynysh gas field project for SC “Turkmengas”, the state-owned National Gas Company of Turkmenistan, has been inaugurated following a successful commissioning of utilities and introduction of gas to process facilities.
The gas treatment plant at the field, formerly known as South Yoloten and which is situated approximately 400km south east of the capital Ashgabat, is capable of processing 10 billion cubic metres of gas per year.
Petrofac provided engineering, procurement and commissioning work on a lump-sum basis for 10 BCMa the gas processing plant along with 20 BCMa infrastructure and pipelines for the entire development in an ambitious 33-month programme which began in late 2010 following an initial US$100 million front end engineering and design phase.
Today the facility was officially inaugurated in a ceremony attended by His Excellency the President of Turkmenistan, Mr. Gurbanguly Myalikgulyyevich Berdymukhamedov, his Excellency the President of China, Xi Jinping, senior representatives of SC “Turkmengas”, and Petrofac Group Chief Executive Ayman Asfari.
Speaking at the inauguration event Mr Asfari said: “I am delighted to witness the culmination of what has been a large scale and complex project, within a logistically challenging environment and aggressive deadline, set within a desert environment. At its peak the project had a workforce of 60 contractors with more than 14,000 employees, three quarters of whom were Turkumany.
“That our largest EPC project to date has successfully moved into the commissioning and start up phase on time is testament to our discipline, focus on cost control, excellence in project execution, our partnerships with local suppliers and businesses, and a collaborative relationship with our customer.”
The feed gas from the field contains up to 6% H2S, and the development includes gas treatment and sulphur handling facilities, along with well pad facilities, gathering facilities, infrastructure and utilities, condensate processing, storage and 100 kilometres of 56” export pipeline.
