Honeywell’s UOP regional engineering design seminar graduates first class in Middle East
UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, announced today that it has graduated its first class of students from the UOP Regional Engineering Design Seminar in the Middle East.
The program was designed to provide engineers with the fundamentals of refining process design to help meet growing demand for highly-trained refinery personnel in the Middle East. Twenty-nine students successfully completed the six-week program.
The seminar included participants from five regional energy companies: Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Fuel Additives Co. Ltd., Oman Oil Refineries & Petrochemical Industries Co., Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co. (Takreer) and Turkish Refineries Petroleum Co. It was led by UOP process design and equipment design specialists.
“Participating companies now have a pool of more experienced engineers that can help in many aspects of their engineering programs, from designing equipment in-house, to reviewing the designs provided by UOP and other contributors,” said Keith Aspray, vice president and general manager, UOP Middle East Company. “Throughout training, students had the unique opportunity to interact with peers in other refining organizations and meet senior UOP staff, forming connections that will prove valuable as the students advance in their careers.”
More than 50 UOP Engineering Design Seminars have been conducted to date, but this was the first program held outside the U.S. Due to the program’s success, the immense growth in new refining, petrochemical and gas processing projects in the region and the need for trained personnel to lead these projects, UOP plans to offer other regional EDS programs in the future.
The graduation ceremony was held on Jan. 24, and UOP representatives from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Dhahran and Des Plaines, Ill. were in attendance. Invited guests and representatives included directors and senior training managers from participating companies, as well as representatives from the Qatar Foundation.
The next UOP EDS will be held in Des Plaines, Ill. beginning April 29.
