Univar announces deal with K2 Pure Solutions to market new production of hydrochloric acid

Univar Inc, a leading global chemical distributor, announced today it has signed an agreement with long-standing partner, K2 Pure Solutions (K2 Pure) to market and distribute hydrochloric acid (HCL).

K2 Pure was one of the first manufacturers to create and deploy the cutting-edge process known as Inherently-Safe Technology (IST). IST enables the manufacture of chlor-alkali products, such as HCL, bleach, and caustic soda, using only water, salt, and electricity. This eliminates the hazards of importing railcars of chlorine that travel through heavily populated areas.

“K2 Pure’s Inherently Safe Technology is a revolutionary step forward in the way chlor-alkali products are manufactured today,” says Brian Jurcak, vice president product management at Univar. “Quality and safety are crucial to customers using these materials, and we are certain K2 Pure’s additional hydrochloric acid capacity will be well-received in the market.”

Production and distribution of HCL began in July from K2 Pure’s Pittsburg, California facility.
