Linde installs major gas supply system enabling advancements in manufacturing and the process industries
Linde Gases, a division of The Linde Group, today announced an agreement with Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) for the installation of a major central gas supply system at the University’s recently renovated multi-story research laboratory of chemical engineering and separation technology. Lappeenranta is one of Finland’s leading science and technology education facility, and the installation, scheduled for completion in October, will help enable cutting edge research into the areas of welding technology for metals and the latest chemical and separation technology sciences for the process industries.
The central gas system, which represents the largest installation of its kind in Finland, is part of REDLINE® - Linde’s specialty gases equipment product range. The extensive system will transport research gases, including key welding gases such as argon and propane, to over 400 points of use throughout the 5-story building, which will house multiple research laboratories. In addition to mitigating the need to transfer large, heavy cylinders across far distances, a key role of gas supply systems is to avoid the need to have potentially dangerous gases residing in work areas and to reduce the potential for gas contamination. The system is expected to be a key reference site for similar projects in other Scandinavian and Baltic states.
“This is an important contract for Linde, not only in Finland, but also across the Nordic region,” said Head of Specialty Gases and Specialty Equipment at Linde, Stephen Harrison. “Lappeenranta University of Technology has invested heavily in their new laboratory facilities and it is testament to both our technology leadership in the area of managing the transportation of high purity gases and to our design and engineering capabilities, that Lappeenranta awarded us this project.”
“In addition to their technology capabilities, Linde provided us with an insightful and innovative gas delivery system which was above and beyond what was initially envisaged,” said Eero Kaipainen, Laboratory Manager, Lappeenranta University of Technology. “The end result was one incorporating an elegant solution of quality gases, equipment, project design and installation, services and maintenance for the coming years.”
