Honeywell’s UOP creates dedicated gas processing and hydrogen business unit
Increases focus on development and execution of solutions to support growing natural gas use and hydrogen supply for growing fuels demand. UOP LLC, a Honeywell company announced today it has established a new business unit dedicated to gas processing solutions and hydrogen.
The new Gas Processing and Hydrogen business unit will increase Honeywell UOP’s focus on developing technology, equipment and adsorbents as well as the design and execution of projects for global natural gas and hydrogen customers. Natural gas is the world’s fastest-growing fossil fuel, with consumption expected to reach 160 trillion cubic feet by 2035. Hydrogen is a critical resource used in refining hydroprocessing technologies for transportation fuels and petrochemicals.
“UOP has been working with the natural gas industry for more than 50 years, providing a range of gas purification technologies and products,” said Rajeev Gautam, president and CEO of Honeywell’s UOP. “This new dedicated business unit will deepen our commitment and allow us to better serve our existing natural gas and hydrogen customers as well as identify new opportunities to help address the growing global demand.”
Rebecca Liebert has been named vice president and general manager for Gas Processing and Hydrogen and will report to Gautam. Rebecca joins UOP from Honeywell Electronic Materials (HEM), where she served as vice president and general manager for the global supplier of critical materials to the electronics industry including semiconductors, photovoltaics and light emitting diodes (LED) that enable customers to develop innovative technologies and overcome manufacturing challenges.
Prior to joining Honeywell in 2006, Rebecca was president of Reynolds Food Packaging for Alcoa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kentucky, a doctorate in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a master’s of business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Honeywell UOP’s gas processing technologies focus on the removal of contaminants and liquids recovery from natural gas streams in on-shore natural gas treating, Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) pretreatment, off-shore applications and synthesis gas purification. Additionally, Honeywell’s UOP offers technology and equipment for the production and management of hydrogen in a range of applications, including refining facilities, steam reformers and ethylene plants.
In November 2011, Honeywell’s UOP expanded its natural gas treatment portfolio to include supersonic gas separation technology for the removal of water and heavy hydrocarbons through an exclusive marketing alliance with the Netherlands-based Twister B.V.
The company also recently announced that MODEC, Inc. has commissioned a UOP Separex™ membrane system and adsorbents to remove carbon dioxide and water from 5 million standard cubic meters of natural gas per day on a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel in the Lula oil field off the coast of Brazil.
