Brazil's Petrobras to expand Minas Gerais biofuels plant

Brazilian oil and gas company Petroleo Brasileiro S/A, or Petrobras, said Thursday it signed an accord with the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais to boost output of biodiesel there. The accord foresees investments of up to 28 million Brazilian reais ($16.2 million) to increase the capacity of Petrobras's Montes Claros biodiesel plant by 40% to 152 million liters a year and to include small-scale agricultural workers in local biofuels production activities, Petrobras said in a statement.

Petrobras has five biodiesel plants with the total capacity to produce 721.4 million liters of biodiesel a year in Brazil's Minas Gerais, Bahia, Ceara, Parana and Rio Grande do Sul states.
