MERICON™ spent caustic processing

MERICON™ technology provides an on-site solution for the processing of spent caustics to reduce their biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD), control odor, adjust acidity and destroy phenolics. Merichem Company’s patented technology produces a neutral brine effluent stream that can be routed to waste-water treating facilities, evaporation ponds, or waterways. MERICON technology was first licensed in 1988. To date, Merichem has granted 30 operating licences worldwide.

- Guaranteed final brine euent quality.

Minimal capital investment needed to meet required COD and BOD levels and produce a non-odorous brine effuent.

- Design of a system based on over 70 combined years of know-how developed in Merichem's own processing plants for sulfidic, cresylic and naphthenic caustics.

- Minimal contaminants in final brine effluent, which minimizes treatment requirements in the WWTP.

- Specifications for materials of construction and pH control are based on long useful life and minimal maintenance requirements.

- System design is based on minimal requirements for operator attention.

- Ability to maintain a 100% onstream service factor between maintenance turnarounds.

- Totally enclosed design will prevent odors from acid gases released during the neutralization process.

- Fully dedicated technical services staff.
